MFF Internships for Spring 2017

Are you interested in learning about how to produce a film festival from the ground up? Come get hands on experience with us during the 2017 Festival!

All applicants should be:

  • College students, young professionals or graduating high school seniors eager to learn various aspects of Film Festival Management.
  • Dependable, fast learners who are able to see projects through to completion;
  • Flexible and willing to pitch in where needed;
  • Organized while able to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Friendly and courteous as you’ll be representing the MFF

We are seeking interns in the following areas:

BOX OFFICE INTERNS
Approximate Dates: March 7th – May 12th
Description: Our Box Office Team is looking for a few enthusiastic Box Office Interns to help us manage all aspects of the Film Festival Box Office before and during the festival.   You will have the opportunity to learn how about our ticketing system, individual and group ticket sales, ticket packages, vouchers, and troubleshooting. If you are interested in a bird’s eye view of sales, this is the job for you:

Box Office Interns will be responsible for:

  • Helping to train festival volunteers before and during the festival
  • Assisting festival patrons with ticket sales
  • Setting up Festival Box office locations
  • Updating training materials
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with the ticketing system

Skills Required:

  • Good people skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm

MERCHANDISE INTERNS
Approximate Dates: April 17th – May 12th
Description:  Our Merchandising team is looking for a few essential people to help manage the merchandise sales during the festival.  Are you interested in sales, or have sales experience? Do you like to work with people? Come join the Merchandise team and learn all about the universe of sales, festival merchandise, and much more.

The Merchandise Interns will be responsible for the following:

  • Learning how to sell merchandise using our sales platform
  • Creating all the necessary pricing and inventory sheets
  • Updating volunteer training materials
  • Tracking and managing inventory
  • Creating exciting merchandise displays

Skills Required:

  • A can do attitude
  • Good people skills
  • Organizational skills and enthusiasm are a plus.
  • Previous Sales experience is a plus.

OFFICE/PRODUCTION INTERNS
Approximate Dates: March 13th – May 12th
Description: Our Festival Headquarters is looking for a few people to help with day to day operations.  If you want to learn about how a festival really happens, then this is the job for you. You will be able to help with all the different teams during the festival setup and assist the festival staff with key tasks before, during and after the festival.

The Office/Production Interns will be responsible for the following:

  • Answering phones and assisting patrons with ticket sales and other festival questions
  • Selling tickets, merchandise and concessions
  • Creating key festival materials including badges, ballots, theater kits and more.
  • Helping set up venues as needed
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds without difficulty
  • Helping with regular office duties

Skills Required:

  • A can do attitude
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good people and organizational skills
  • Enthusiam
  • Strong phone/communication skills
  • Drivers License and access to a car is a plus
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word documents, and more.

FESTIVAL EVENTS INTERNS
Approximate Dates: April 17 – May 12th
Description: Do you have a passion for planning events? Do you like setting up balloon arches, party planning, and other aspects of events?   Assist with the planning and the execution of the best parties this side of the Hudson River. Parties Include: Director’s Preview Party, Opening Night Party, House Party, Filmmaker Party, and Volunteer Party

The Events Interns will be responsible for the following:

  • Ordering supplies for all festival events and parties
  • Planning timelines of all events
  • Assist with setup, party execution and breakdown of all events.

Skills Required:

  • Good people and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds without difficulty
  • Enthusiasm

GUEST SERVICES INTERNS
Approximate Dates: March 21st – May 12th
Description: Do you have a passion for good customer service? Do you have an interest in making sure all our VIPs (filmmakers, festival guests, etc.) have an enjoyable experience at a film festival?   This position you will work with a variety of festival teams to make sure our festival guests are treated like Montclair Royalty!

The Guest Services Interns will be responsible for assisting with the following:

  • Ordering/delivering food/beverage/supplies for festival guests and green rooms
  • Working with Guest Services Manager to create itineraries for all our festival guests
  • Working with guest services to book and manage transportation to and from the festival
  • Assisting with setup and breakdown of the festival/filmmaker lounge
  • Providing staff coverage at the festival/filmmaker lounge as needed
  • Helping to create and distribute badges and filmmaker materials
  • Assembling and delivering VIP gift bags
  • Working with the sponsorship team to make ensure logo and signage requirements are met
  • Working with the Box Office Team to ensure proper ticket distribution for sponsors, donors and other special guests
  • Greeting and assisting sponsors/donors at events

PROGRAM INTERNS
Dates: Dates: March 7th – May 12th
Description:  Do have an interest in learning about how a festival gets programmed? Do you have an interest in learning how to communicate with filmmakers to ensure that films and materials are received correctly and timely?

Programing Interns will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the tracking of filmmaker materials including film stills, vimeo links and exhibition copies
  • Creating and distributing filmmaker materials
  • Assisting with necessary updates to the film pages on our website
  • Distribution of filmmaker badges, tickets, reserved seating, VIP gift bags and other special requests

Skills Required:

  • A can do attitude
  • Good people skills
  • Strong spread sheet skills are required
  • Working knowledge of website/word press is strongly preferred
  • Organizational skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Strong editing and proof-reading skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • Enthusiasm

RUNNERS/DRIVERS
Dates: April 27th – May 7th
Description:   Runners are the one of the most essential part of the festival.   We are looking for few enthusiastic people to be “on the ground” to help us make the magic happen behind the scenes!

Runners will be responsible for:

  • Delivering festival meals and supplies to the festival venues/staff
  • Packing and delivering gift bags to venues, hotels, etc.
  • Assisting with setup and breakdown of the festival/filmmaker lounge and other festival venues
  • You will be on call to assist various festival departments with running errands throughout the duration of the festival in a timely manner.

Skills Required:

  • Must have a valid drivers license, car, and insurance.
  • A can do attitude
  • Good people skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds without difficulty
  • Enthusiasm
